Smer-SD: Session of Executives Focused on Sunday's Ceremonial Convention

Bratislava, December 5 (TASR) - The local structures of Smer-SD party will evaluate the Higher Territorial Unit (VUC) election results and submit them for discussion at January's Smer summit. They were assigned this task by the party leadership at a session of executives of Smer-SD on Saturday.

Smer-SD spokesperson Katarina Klizanova-Rysova said that the party leaders haven't addressed any personnel issues regarding VUC election results. The party chairman Robert Fico claimed that it had probably been a mistake not to nominate an own candidate in the second, run-off round in Bratislava or at least not to support a candidate of the other governing party. "We'll draw a lesson from that and pass appropriate decision in the future," said Fico, adding that personnel decisions are not out of question.

The session was mainly focused on the upcoming Sunday's ceremonial convention in Bratislava, marking the 10th anniversary of the Smer-SD formation. Approximately 2,000 guests have been invited for the ceremony, with Czech Social-Democratic Party (CSSD) chairman Jiri Paroubek and Austrian Chancellor Werner Faymann among those to attend.

After the convention, Fico plans to leave with Paroubek for a visit to Prague to take part in the European Socialists Party congress.
