Bratislava, May 19 (TASR) - In the first quarter of this year the Government granted 1,261 applications with a total cost of €11.83 million as part of anti-crisis labour-market measures to create or maintain 8,467 jobs, reads an Economy Ministry report on the subject approved by the Government on Wednesday.
'We can claim that we're over the most difficult period, as is evident from key economic indices, which are leaving negative territory, and gross domestic product (GDP) can be expected to grow,' wrote the ministry in the report on the fulfilment of government measures aimed at weathering the fallout from the economic and financial crisis in the first quarter.
The crisis in the real economy is currently reflected in the area of welfare in the form of high unemployment.
'Employment can be expected to rebound and new jobs be created as late as 2011 when GDP growth is to exceed 3 percent. In the near future, therefore, we need to focus on employment problems and related labour-market policy measures,' added the ministry in the report.
