Csaky: Paska Cancelled House's Ceremonial Session on Fear of Fiasco

Bratislava, May 18 (TASR) - Parliamentary Chairman Pavol Paska made the decision to cancel Wednesday's ceremonial parliamentary session in an effort to avert a possible fiasco if Opposition parties don't show up, ethnic-Hungarian SMK party leader Pal Csaky told TASR on Tuesday.
Paska's move has nothing to do with a session of the country's Security Council earlier in the day, added Csaky. He said that Opposition SDKU-DS, Christian Democrats (KDH) and SMK have been considering giving the parliamentary session a miss in protest against what the parties view as the not-quite-civilised attitude of the governing Coalition toward dialogue in the House.
Csaky added that the final decision on Opposition parties' attendance at the planned session was to be made later on Tuesday. "It was very likely that they wouldn't attend. So Paska wanted to avoid such a scandal," said Csaky.
According to SMK leader Csaky, it was wrong to call the Security Council's session over an amendment to the law on dual citizenship that was submitted to the Hungarian Parliament on Monday. It would have been appropriate to call it only in order to discuss floods that are currently hitting various parts of Slovakia, added Csaky.
Prime Minister Robert Fico hit a concrete wall as he failed to garner international backing in his hysteria over the act. "Now he's seeking a way out. The prime minister has realised that it's uncalled for to incite hysteria in society, and that discussion is needed instead," said Csaky.
