Bratislava, November 18 (TASR) - Unsuccessful independent candidate for the post of Trencin region governor Juraj Liska, third in the regional elections this past Saturday, on Wednesday recommended his voters support incumbent Governor Pavol Sedlacek in the second election round on November 28.
Sedlacek's (HZDS-Smer-SNS) rival in the head-to-head election is Martin Fedor (SDKU-DS), who was Liska's successor as defence minister in Mikulas Dzurinda's second government. Liska resigned (on the principle of ministerial responsibility) following the crash of a Slovak military transport aircraft in Hungary that killed 42 service personnel, and later on he also left SDKU-DS following disagreements over Dzurinda's leadership style.
"As a politically independent person, I focus on the quality of the personality, not the party affiliation. I value (Sedlacek) for his moral qualities and expertise as well as his managerial skills," said Liska.
Fedor told TASR that Liska's decision didn't surprise him, but he won't comment on it. "I'm convinced that Liska's voters want a change in the leadership of the region, however," said Fedor.
