Bratislava, May 18 (TASR) - Should the flood situation in Slovakia worsen, the country will co-ordinate further action with the Czech Republic and Poland, said Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico on Monday.
"The situation in the south of Poland close to our borders is very complicated. It was even necessary for Slovak Interior Minister Robert Kalinak and his Polish counterpart Jerzy Miller to discuss the situation and certain technical steps, because some dams that could have created problems on the Slovak side had to be emptied," said Fico.
He added that he has agreed with his Polish counterpart Donald Tusk to meet immediately to co-ordinate further action if the situation gets worse. "The Czech Premier (Jan Fischer) is on a business trip abroad, but I assume that there would be somebody nominated for these discussions for the Czech side," added Fico.
The flood situation in critical locations in Slovakia, as well as the use of rescue teams and the armed forces in the regions should be personally monitored by Interior Minister Kalinak and Defence Minister Jaroslav Baska.
