Bratislava, November 18 (TASR) - Robert Fico's Government is beggaring the people in the traditional region of Upper Orava (Zilina region), Opposition SDKU-DS chairman and former premier Mikulas Dzurinda said at a press conference on Wednesday.
According to Dzurinda, in a tender for the purchase of 140 ambulances the Government preferred a Czech company over a Slovak one, and, moreover, it transcended the law in doing so.
Dzurinda says that a local company from Tvrdosin offered the ambulances for €19.8 million, while the bid submitted by a Czech company was by €3.4 million more expensive. Dzurinda asserts that the conditions in the tender were tailor-made for the Czech company.
The Public Procurement Office (UVO) and Zilina regional court later decided in favour of the Slovak company; however, the state had already signed the contract with the Czech company, according to the former premier.
Dzurinda and Mayor of Tvrdosin Ivan Sasko had scheduled a meeting with Health Minister Richard Rasi for Wednesday, during which they had planned to ask some questions about the tender. Rasi cancelled the meeting at the last moment, however, reported Dzurinda.
