Smer and Flasik to Sue SME and Novy Cas for Reports on Illicit Deal

Bratislava, March 15 (TASR) - Both the main governing party Smer-SD and its erstwhile marketing wizard Fedor Flasik on Saturday announced that they will take legal action against dailies SME and Novy Cas for their Saturday's reports on alleged Flasik's illicit deal with a wealthy entrepreneur.
The deal between Flasik and entrepreneur in energy Lubomir Blasko from 2002 should have secured senior posts in the state administration for people close to the latter in reward for a €1-million donation for Smer.
Flasik claimed he warned the two dailies in advance that the copy of the contract is fake, as he has never signed such a deal. Flasik noted that it was only Smer chief Robert Fico (current premier) who was authorised to sign contracts on behalf of the party.
"If I had signed the contract, I wouldn't have any problem to confess it, as I've had nothing in common with Smer for eight years now and therefore I've no reason for covering anything," said Flasik, who is the husband of Smer MEP Monika Flasikova-Benova (re-elected in 2009).
Smer in a written statement announced that apart from SME and Novy Cas, it will also sue those media that would assume "aforementioned lies and counterfeit".
