UNAS Takes Legal Action Against State and NDS Over Road-toll System

Kosice, May 14 (TASR) - The Union of Slovak Road Hauliers (UNAS) on Friday filed legal action at Bratislava I District Court against Slovakia and the National Highway Company (NDS) for what it described as the poorly thought-out, unprepared and unjust toll collection under the electronic road-toll system introduced earlier this year.

According to UNAS chair Miroslav Polacek speaking at a press conference in Kosice, by its legal action the union is asking, among other things, for wrongly demarcated road sections within municipalities to be corrected. UNAS has proposed that the court should provisionally stop the collection of tolls as of June 1.

Polacek stressed that if the state and NDS continue to violate hauliers' constitutional rights, protests like the ones seen earlier this year will be repeated. Polacek didn't specify whether the protests will involve road blockades as well. At the same time, he rejected the notion that UNAS's activities would have any political link to the June 12 general election.
