SNS Wants Extraordinarry Parliamentary Session on Dual Citizenship

Bratislava, May 13 (TASR) - If there is an extraordinary parliamentary session summoned, nationalist SNS will strongly insist on having the Slovak Ambassador to Hungary (Peter Weiss) withdrawn if the Hungarian law on dual citizenship is passed in Budapest, according to SNS leader Jan Slota.

"It's fine that we've asked over our ambassador from Budapest to Bratislava, but I'm convinced that Slovakia should respond in a much more radical way. We should also terminate the agreement on good neighbourly relations. The responses made by the new (Hungarian) political representation do not follow the objectives laid out in the agreement," said Slota.

According to SNS vice-chair Anna Belousovova, the Hungarian attempts to amend their dual-citizenship law have proven that Hungary is "getting radical in an unseen ways". She said that the incoming prime minister Viktor Orban lied when he said that he wouldn't interfere with the run-up to the general election in Slovakia. "The fact that he began to speak about his plans to grant Hungarians living in Slovakia dual citizenship represents a major intervention into the election campaign (in Slovakia), in favour of (ethnic-Hungarian party) SMK," said Belousovova.

She added that SNS on Thursday began to collect signatures of MPs to call an extraordinary sitting of the Slovak Parliament in which the dual citizenship issue should be dealt with. "For now, we've got signatures of SNS MPs. We're going to turn to our coalition partners (Smer-SD and LS-HZDS) and the Opposition too," said Belousovova, who labelled Orban a "radical nationalist powered by a constitutional majority".
