HZDS to Miss Extraordinary Session of Parliament on Greek Package

Bratislava, May 11 (TASR) - Coalition LS-HZDS MPs will not take part in the extraordinary parliamentary session on the Greek rescue package summoned for Wednesday, according to the party's vice-chairman for the economy Jozef Habanik.

Speaking to journalists in Bratislava on Tuesday, Habanik said that once Slovakia has decided to adopt the euro, it has to back the idea of taking any measures to make sure that the common European currency remains stable. He said that his party views the opposition parties' rhetoric vis-a-vis Greece's financial troubles and a possible loan provided by Slovakia as a sign of "pure populism and demagogy fed off now, before the election".

According to Habanik, HZDS fully supports the statements made by Premier Robert Fico (Smer-SD) and the Government, which has given a mandate to Finance Minister Jan Pociatek to take action on this matter on international turf.

In line with Fico's opinion, HZDS is convinced that only the new parliament (created after the June 12 general election) should decide whether to provide a rescue loan to Greece or not.
