Stats: Average Salaries in March Rose in All Sectors Except IT

Bratislava, May 11 (TASR) - On an annual basis, real salaries in Slovakia grew in March 2010 in all sectors except for IT, according to information published by the Slovak Statistics Office on Tuesday.

The highest year-on-year real salary increases were seen in industry (8.2 percent), in wholesale (7 percent) and in accommodation (4.2 percent). Conversely, real salaries in March fell in IT and communications - by 4.3 percent on the year.

Average nominal salaries in March increased in industry (9.1 percent), in wholesale (7.9 percent) and in accommodation (5 percent). Salaries also rose in retail, in transport and warehousing, and in construction. Lower salaries were reported in IT and communications, which were down 3.5 percent.

In the first quarter of 2010, meanwhile, average salaries increased on an annual basis in industry (by 7 percent), in bar and restaurant services (4.6 percent) and in wholesale (4.3 percent). Only construction reported a fall - of 0.7 percent.

In the first quarter of 2010, employees in the IT sector enjoyed the highest nominal monthly salaries of €1,576 on average, followed by employees in industry on €765. Other monthly salaries were: in selected market services - €746, in wholesale - €716, in motor-vehicle maintenance - €695, in transport and warehousing - €683, in accommodation - €540, in retail - €529, in construction - €523, and in bars and restaurants - €358.
