SaS: Our Proposals More Social Than Those of 'Social Democrat Gov't

Bratislava, December 4 (TASR) - Governing parties have passed anti-social bills that don't stimulate growth or maintain jobs and are legislatively bad, said Freedom and Solidarity (Sloboda a Solidarita/Sas) non-parliamentary party Vice-chairman Jozef Mihal at a press conference on Friday.
SaS representatives harbour particular objections to the Parental Benefit Act. "Differing benefits calculated according to the period that parents worked before having a child shouldn't be included in the social benefits system; variable rates for social benefits also have nothing to do with the word 'social' at all," said Mihal.
SaS regards the increased parental benefit of €256 as unjust, because mothers who have the comprehensive health insurance package are not entitled to receive it (as they are already receiving money through their insurer).
As well, "the New Parental Benefits Act denies a parent receiving the benefit the possibility to earn money - even via part-time job on agreement. Hence, the mother has to fully rely on the state as provider and the father has to bend over backwards to support the family," said Mihal.
According to SaS representatives, the Government isn't meeting its manifesto, which vowed to gradually increase the parental benefits by 2010 in such a way as to substitute the loss of income the parent had in the period when they worked.
