Sales in Vehicle Market Down in 2009 with Exception of Buses

Bratislava, December 4 (TASR) - Car dealerships last month and over the past 11 months have seen the sales of new vehicles largely slump year-on-year, according to Slovak Automotive Association (ZAP) data out on Friday.

The sale of under-3.5 ton passenger cars and small-size trucks was down 23.33 percent to 5,104 in the month of November and 4.37 percent to 83.886 in the first eleven months of 2009 on an annual basis.

The most-popular makes in this category remain Czech-based Skoda with a market-share of 16.5 percent ahead of the runner-up Renault on 10.96 percent and Peugeot on 7.89 percent.

The sale of new trucks of between 3.5-12 tonnes tumbled 60.37 percent between January to November year-on-year, with Iveco grabbing a 41.29 percent market share, Renault 13.67 percent and Mercedes Benz 10.46 percent.

New trucks weighing 12 tonnes-plus plummeted 71.85 percent to 1,014 in the year to November, with Iveco on 18.05 percent, Mercedes Benz 15.98 percent and MAN and Scania sharing the same 13.61 percent.

Only the sale of new buses rose 3.91 percent to 558 in the year to the end of November, with Irisbus representing a 64.69 percent market share followed by SOR in distant second on 16.84 percent and Novoplan with 6.45 percent.
