Bratislava, May 10 (TASR) - Banks refuse to introduce more stringent security measures, said Interior Minister and Deputy Premier Robert Kalinak (a Smer-SD nominee) on Monday, referring to a bank robbery in Malacky (Bratislava region) on the same day in which a security guard was killed.
"We offered to install some monitoring devices for free, but unfortunately it doesn't seem as if banks are interested in improving their own security," said Kalinak.
Kalinak added that the ministry can't force owners of private property to enhance security on their premises if they themselves don't want to do so. According to him, banks rejected the offer because robberies don't take place often and most banks are insured.
The aforementioned security guard was rushed to hospital in a critical condition and died during an emergency operation. During the robbery, he sustained three gunshot wounds to the face, chest, and abdominal area.
