SRo and STV Not Able to Build on State Premises

Bratislava, December 4 (TASR) - State-owned Slovak Radio (SRo) and Slovak Television (STV) will not be able to build their joint premises on land owned by the state as MPs rejected the proposed STV and SRo Act amendment in Parliament on Friday.

The proposal was submitted by Dusan Jarjabek (Smer).

From the Coalition parties, the proposal was supported by Smer and SNS, while HZDS and most of the Opposition voted against it.

Jarjabek said the proposal was necessary to complement other regulations for the construction of the media complex. The concept looked ahead to the construction of a joint media centre on premises owned by the Slovak Republic under the management of the Culture Ministry, said Jarjabek.

SDKU-DS MP Magdalena Vasaryova, who has been opposed to the project from the beginning, told Parliament she doesn't like the fact that the proposal was presented in Parliament by a Coalition MP rather than the ministry (Culture) that came up with the project concept.

Jarjabek described her criticism as 'demagogy'.
