Injured Students From Polish Bus to Be Transported to Polish Hospital

Dobra Niva, May 9 (TASR) - Seventeen passengers from the Polish bus that crashed in Zvolen district (Banska Bystrica region) on Saturday morning are still in Slovak hospitals, but should be transported to a Polish hospital on Sunday.

According to the police, the accident was caused by the 54-year-old Polish bus driver, who was taking 70 Polish students and their teachers to Turkey on holiday. The driver didn't keep a safe distance from the vehicles in front, and when the car ahead gave way to another car while turning left, the bus driver had to swerve over to the right to avoid a collision but ended up driving into a ditch.

"Thirty-one people were injured in the accident. The extent of the injuries and the time required for treatment are being looked into. The damage to the bus reached €20,000. Alcohol wasn't detected on the bus driver. The road accident is being investigated," Banska Bystrica police spokesperson Maria Faltaniova told TASR.

According to Health Ministry spokesperson Zuzana Cizmarikova, the state health of the patients has stabilised.
