Bratislava, December 4 (TASR) - During this past week, 299 new A(H1N1) flu cases have been registered in Slovakia, increasing the total number of all cases to 722, TASR has learned from the Public Health Office.
Most of the people contracted the virus in Slovakia, with most cases registered in Bratislava region (108) and the fewest in Trencin region (10). The new viral strain claimed two lives throughout the week, thereby increasing the number of fatalities to three.
WHO declared the first global pandemic for over 40 years in July this year in response to the A(H1N1) outbreak. The first Slovak patient was a 37-year-old man who contracted the virus during his visit to USA and upon his return transferred the flu to his 8.5-month-old son.
Slovakia will purchase vaccines for 20 percent of the population (approximately 1 million people), with the first inoculation agents due to arrive by the end of this month.
Regular flu, which has similar symptoms to A(H1N1) has been contracted by 16,389 people during recent days, a figure which amounts to 20 percent of all acute respiratory illnesses. The number of cases has fallen by almost 11 percent in comparison to last week.
