Bratislava, May 5 (TASR) - Almost €38 million has been collected in road tolls in the first four months that the toll system has been operating, TASR was told Wednesday by Lenka Lendacka from SkyToll, the company that runs the system.
Electronic tolls on Slovak motorways, highways and first-class roads were introduced for vehicles weighing more than 3.5 tonnes on January 1.
As of April 30, 2010, 166,328 vehicles were registered in the system. On average, 27,416 vehicles has been using the tarriffed sections of the Slovak roads.
From the total sum, as much as 43 percent has been paid by hauliers from abroad, who in most cases chose the option of the prepaid toll, since they use the tarriffed sections only a few times a year. Slovak hauliers use the prepaid toll system for as many as 65 percent of their vehicles.
