Most-Híd: PPP Project Analysis a Diversionary Tactic

Bratislava, May 5 (TASR) - The analysis studying the effects of abolishing the road construction via PPP projects is nothing but a diversionary tactic on the part of the Robert Fico-led Government, as the true beneficiaries of the PPP projects are the companies close to the Coalition, Most-Hid Vice-Chair Zsolt Simon said at a press conference on Wednesday.

"This material represents a mockery of people. The document speaks about the high efficiency of the PPP projects, but efficiency enjoyed by whom? Certainly not by the people. It's a good business for the companies close to the Government, but not in the interest of Slovakia," said Simon.

The analysis deals with "everything except for the essence of the problem," according to Simon. "That is whether to build the roads via PPP projects at triple the cost," he claimed. Slovakia builds one kilometre of highway per €18 million, whereas Croatia is able to do the same thing at €6 million, he pointed out.

Most-Hid agrees with the positive effects of the PPP projects outlined by the analysis, such as higher employment, lower accident frequency or decreased disparity between the regions. "However, if the Government ends up building 225 km instead of 75 km, those costs will jump threefold at once," added Simon, referring to what is being contemplated.
