Vazny: PPP Projects More Advantegous Than Public Procurement

Secovce, May 5 (TASR) - Carrying on with the construction of roads via private-public partnership (PPP) projects would bring a benefit of €12 billion to Slovakia, Transport Minister Lubomir Vazny said after the Government 'away' session in Secovce (Kosice region) on Wednesday.

Vazny was referring to the PPP projects analysis drawn up by Transportation Research Institute in Zilina, although he didn't specify why the PPP projects are so favourable compared to the public procurement route.

The Opposition has taken potshots at the PPP projects, with Vazny viewing their criticism as nothing more than a pre-election strategy. "They haven't laid out any arguments on the table so far to confirm their claims. I, for one, think that they are off the mark, because the PPP projects are really needed by Slovakia," said Vazny.

According to the analysis, due to be discussed at the next Government session, stopping the PPP projects altogether would cost Slovakia yearly €364.07 million in losses. On the other hand, financing the construction of roads via PPP projects instead of via public procurement costs the state €200 million less.
