Transport Ministry: Analysis Shows That PPP Projects Are Cheaper

Bratislava, May 5 (TASR) - The Transport Ministry said on Wednesday that another analysis that it is putting forward for approval by the Government at its policy making session in Secovce (Kosice region) later in the day has shown that building motorways via private-public partnership (PPP) projects is less costly than via public procurements.

The cost-benefit analysis into the construction in progress was drawn up at the orders of Prime Minister Robert Fico in mid-April on undisclosed grounds.

The building of three motorway packages combined was found to cost €5.6 billion, as opposed to a potential bill of €5.793 billion for public procurements.

Weeks before the June 12 election expected to bring in a new government and parliament, the analysis claims that discontinuing the PPP projects would set Slovakia back €364.07 million per annum.
