Skanska SK Leaves Association of Construction Entrepreneurs

Bratislava, May 3 (TASR) - Building company Skanska SK has announced that it is leaving the Association of Construction Entrepreneurs (ZSPS), the company told TASR on Monday.

"The reason for our decision is a gross violation of statutes and the ethical code of enterprise in construction by your organisation," reads a letter sent by Skanska to ZSPS that was also provided to TASR.

Skanska's decision came after ZSPS sent a letter to state bodies with respect to public procurements for the construction of several sections of the D3 motorway, the R4 express road and the modernisation of the railway link between Nove Mesto nad Vahom and Puchov (both Trencin region).

ZSPS in late April warned that Skanska's bid to carry out the aforementioned commissions at a cost one-third less than would be considered normal was not realistic, that the firm won't be able to complete the projects with the required quality and may even seek price increases. ZSPS's letter likened Skanska to Chinese companies attacking the Polish market with dumping prices.

"We view the letter (sent by ZSPS) as an unprecedented intervention in the rules of public competition in Slovakia, and in politics and support for a unified market and the protection of economic competition by the EU," stated Skanska.
