Figel: Gay Parade Display of Freedom of Speech, But Must Be Decent

Bratislava, May 1 (TASR) - The gay parade 'Pride' scheduled for May 22 in Bratislava would be a display of the freedom of speech by homosexuals, but they must keep the event within the boundaries of law and decency, opposition Christian Democrats (KDH) chairman and former EU Commissioner Jan Figel has told TASR.

"It's lack of decency that is often part of such parades and violates the public order and is the cause of scandal," said Figel. "It's this where I see the role of public authorities," noted Figel, appealing for responsibility of the organisers in the first place, however.

"I believe that the 21st century represents a challenge, in respect both to human freedom and responsibility. The best answer are natural institutions, who get through centuries for the very reason that they're time-tested, based on nature and bring development and good for society," said Figel.

The Christian Democrats stand for May festivals, specifically those in support of the family. "It's especially Mother's Day," said Figel.
