Ban Ki-Moon Praises Slovak Diplomats' Activity on International Scene

New York, May 1 (TASR) - United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon commended Slovak diplomats for their part played on the international scene, at a meeting with Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajcak in New York on Friday, TASR was told by Lajcak's spokesman Peter Stano on Saturday.
Ban Ki-Moon made a special mention of Slovak diplomats' activity in prevention of conflicts in Central Asia, most recently in tackling the Kyrgyzstan crisis.
The UN secretary general, too, has praised the country's initiative in the overhaul of the security sector and backing for the International Criminal Court, which was the focal point of a seminar he and Lajcak proceeded to open at the premises of the United Nations in New York.
Minister Lajcak conveyed Slovakia's strong political support for the Court, underscoring its importance as the first permanent international criminal tribunal. He said that international community must step up its fight against impunity of perpetrators of the most serious crimes.
Staged by Slovakia's standing mission to UN, the seminar is specially important for taking place at a time when the international community is in preparation for the first review conference of the ICC in Kampala, Capital of Uganda, between May 31-June 11.
The seminar, attended by 250 participants, featured an address of ICC President Judge Sang-Hyun Song and in panel discussion, speeches from renowned experts on international law, representatives of respective member states, observers, civil society and professional fraternity.
