Investors Want Next Government's Priority to Be Building Motorways

Bratislava, April 29 (TASR) – Foreign investors in Slovakia concur that the next government should focus especially on building motorways in the central and eastern parts of the country.
"Infrastructure should be of good quality, as investors need a good road network for doing business. Interlinking individual regions is also important," TASR was told by Slovak-German Trade and Industry Chamber spokesman Markus Halt. He also emphasised that businesses coming to Slovakia from abroad wouldn't be happy if the current tax burden were changed. He noted that the burden is relatively low at the moment, which, along with the euro exchange rate and a cheap labour force, represents one of Slovakia's biggest advantages over other EU countries.
The new government should also focus on improving law enforcement and fighting corruption, according to Maria Berithova from the Slovak-Austrian Trade Chamber.
Chairman of the American Trade Chamber (AmCham) Jake Slegers labelled corruption as one of the most serious problems that Slovakia has to tackle, as it directly influences the activities of foreign investors here.
Slegers also warned that Slovakia's most serious issue in the sphere of human resources is the lack of a qualified labour force. "This is, in a certain way, lowering Slovakia's competitiveness, and the new government should deal with it," he said, claiming that the structure of Slovakia's education system doesn't correspond with the needs of the domestic labour market. "Universities should be more closely linked to practice," he thinks.
