Hundreds of Experts to Address Unemployment Issues at JobExpo
Thursday 29 April 2010 Zoom in | Print page
Nitra, April 29 (TASR) - The two-day job fair JobExpo 2010 at Nitra's Agrokomplex fairground is focused on prospects of the labour market, with some 320 experts expected to attend the Centre for Labour, Social Affairs and the Family (UPSVR) event that began Thursday.
"They (the experts) all have experience in the field of labour markets and they are expected to discuss options on how to address the current situation as well as the potential of Slovakia in the future, with their professional conclusion due to be sent to individual ministries as recommendations," UPSVR General Director Jan Sihelsky told TASR.
According to Labour, Social Affairs and Family Minister Viera Tomanova, there will be much to discuss. "The main topic will be the issue of finding a secure, good and dignified job. We'll talk about the crisis, about the tax and deduction burden, and the labour market strategy for the decade ahead. Furthermore, there will be discussions about building a social state, about business freedom in Slovakia as well as tripartite (labour, government and business) and youth unemployment (which is two-fold that of national average of almost 13 percent)," added Tomanova.
Among the main guests are Economy Minister Lubomir Jahnatek, Finance Ministry state secretary Frantisek Palko, Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAV) economist and advisor to the Slovak Premier Peter Stanek and Slovak Eurocommissioner Maros Sefcovic.
"We've lost nearly seven million jobs within the EU over the course of just a few months. There are more than 23 million unemployed people in Europe, and what's most alarming - more than 20 percentage of them being young people. There are school-leavers with a high school and often university education who can't find jobs, that's how bad the situation is," said the Eurocommissioner.
According to Sefcovic, the EU is bent on fighting poverty and social exclusion, with plans to improve the system of social protection as well as investing into the fields of education and research.
