Bratislava, December 3 (TASR) - The contraction in the Slovak economy decelerated to 4.8 percent in the third quarter of 2009, the Statistics Office confirmed on Thursday, amending its preliminary prognosis from November 13 when it estimated a drop of 4.9 percent.
GDP fell by 5.6 percent year-on-year in 1Q09 and by 5.3 percent in 2Q09.
The economy grew by 1.6 percent quarter-on-quarter in 3Q09, reaching €16.586 billion.
In a y-o-y comparison, GDP dropped by 5.3 percent in the first nine months of this year. The Slovak economy has registered a significant drop in production in 2009, caused by the lack of foreign demand due to the global economic crisis.
