AZEN Party Kicks off Petition Drive Against Loan to Greece

Bratislava, April 28 (TASR) - The Alliance for a Europe of Nations (AZEN) party is launching a petition drive against a loan for debt-ridden Greece, with the party's initiative aimed at showing insufficient guarantees that Greece would ever pay it off, AZEN head Milan Urbani told TASR on Wednesday.
"There's a risk that this loan would get lost in the black hole of Greece's generous social system and it would fail to resolve the country's problems," he said. "Who's going to vouch for the loan's repayment? Greece with its shattered economy?" pondered Urbani.
If Slovakia were to lend funds to Greece, such credit should be guaranteed by the European Commission, which, given its insufficient supervision over the Greek economy, is to blame for the entire problem, he added.
"This deficit was piling up for years, as is also the case with Spain, Portugal, Italy and Ireland. The European Commission is failing to fulfil its duties," said Urbani, formerly LS-HZDS party vice-chairman.
"We're launching this petition to enable people to speak up," he said, adding that should people disapprove of the loan, Slovakia ought to refuse to provide any funds to Greece.
According to Slovak Finance Minister Jan Pociatek, Slovakia will contribute 1.02 percent, or some €300 million, to the EU's total financial aid package for Greece.
