Belgrade, December 3 (TASR) - Slovak President Ivan Gasparovic held a speech at the Slovak-Serbian business forum in Belgrade on Thursday together with Serbian Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic in which he underlined that Slovakia attaches special significance to its relations with Serbia.
Praising the state of relations overall, he pointed out that mutual trade with Serbia has increased twenty-fold in the past ten years.
The Slovak President said that there are still further possibilities to expand economic co-operation, however, especially in mutual investments, called for also by Cvetkovic.
"Serbia is facing a major restructuring of its energy sector," said Slovak Economy Minister Lubomir Jahnatek, who added that this is necessary because the existing system is outdated and demands for power and energy are increasing.
Slovakia has come to Belgrade offering to build new heating plants or reconstruct the existing ones, said Jahnatek. He added that the past former co-operation in the energy sphere between Slovakia and Serbia makes Slovakia a likely future partner as well.
Earlier in the day, Jahnatek and the Serbian energy sector representatives signed a protocol on deepening mutual economic ties.
