Highest Unemployment Benefits in Bratislava, Lowest in East

Bratislava, April 28 (TASR) - The East and West of Slovakia don't differ only in economic progress but also in the level of unemployment benefit, with the highest benefit in 2009 being paid in Bratislava - €438.80 per month on average, and the lowest in Svidnik (Presov region) - €197.90, TASR learnt on Wednesday.
According to state-run social-insurer Socialna Poistovna, the average for Slovakia in 2009 stood at €284.30 per month.
A total of 50,602 people were eligible to receive unemployment benefit in Slovakia last year, which was a 125-percent increase year-on-year. In 2005, however, the number of unemployed receiving unemployment benefit was as high as 75,897.
The total cost of unemployment benefit reached €172.58 million in 2009.
