Vazny: EBRD to Provide €250-million Loan for Motorway Construction

Bratislava, April 28 (TASR) - The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is to take part in funding the first package of PPP projects for building motorways in Slovakia with a loan reaching €250 million, Transport Minister Lubomir Vazny told the media on Wednesday.

The bank made the decision to provide the loan for construction of the D1 motorway on Tuesday. "I view it as the first of a number of decisive steps, and the fact is that it sends out a trustworthy and clear signal of the success of this project. It's among the multilateral banks whose role is pivotal in funding these projects," said Vazny.

It's still uncertain, however, whether the European Investment Bank (EIB), which is supposed to lend Slovakia €1 billion for the PPP projects, will also participate. The bank is expected to make its decision public by the end of April.

"The European Commission has commissioned an independent environmental audit, which is necessary for the EIB's final stance," said Vazny.
