Fico: Dzurinda Shadows Me Like a Secret Agent

Bratislava, December 3 (TASR) - I would never like to find myself in the kind of situation that former premier and current chairman of the leading Opposition SDKU-DS party Mikulas Dzurinda is in, Prime Minister Robert Fico said in Parliament on Thursday.

"It's awkward that he (Dzurinda), after holding the reins of the Slovak Government for eight years, should follow me around Slovakia like a secret agent and should organise press conferences in hotels located opposite buildings where the Government is holding a session," said the premier in Question Hour in Parliament.

Fico was referring to the fact that, while the Cabinet was holding a session in the eastern town of Poprad on November 25, Dzurinda gave a press conference in the same town, where he called the Government's session mere theatre ahead of the second round of VUC election held November 28.

"This is not about tourism, it's a mere pretext for the Government's putting on some pre-election theatre on behalf of its candidates," said Dzurinda in Poprad last week.

Fico rejected Dzurinda's claims, however. "We dealt exclusively with the issue of tourism at this session," he said, noting that the ministers agreed on the concept of a new Tourism Act as well as discussed the issue of arranging the High Tatras into zones.
