If Fico Doesn't Halt PPP Project by Friday, SDKU Will Take Legal Action

Bratislava, April 27 (TASR) - The strongest opposition party SDKU-DS said on Tuesday that if Robert Fico's Government doesn't halt the first package of the private-public partnership (PPP) project for motorway construction by Friday (April 30), it will file a criminal complaint.

"We're ready to file a legal complaint against Mr. Fico, (Finance Minister Jan) Pociatek and (Transport Minister Lubomir) Vazny over suspicions of misuse of a public officer's authority," said SDKU vice-chair Ivan Miklos at a press conference.

The financial documentation concerning the first PPP package that includes the construction of certain sections of the D1 motorway in Slovakia should be completed by Friday. According to SDKU, the whole project is overpriced by €1.3 billion and construction is 14 months behind schedule. "PPP (projects) are the biggest public commission in the history of Slovakia," noted SDKU MP Igor Stefanec.

Miklos compared Slovakia with Greece, but stressed that while the Greeks have experienced above-standard living standards until now, only a select group close to the Smer party have had any such luck in Slovakia.
