Bratislava, April 26 (TASR) - Social agreements cannot be reached without solidarity, according to President Ivan Gasparovic, who said this on Monday at a conference organised by the Confederation of Trade Unions (KOZ), held in Bratislava on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of KOZ's existence.
Gasparovic said he finds it essential that mid-term measures and solutions as well as long-term reforms are being proposed and carried out upon a wide social consensus. "That's what social dialogue is about. Influence of trade unions should never cease," said Gasparovic.
Attendees of the conference also heard a speech by Prime Minister Robert Fico, who praised the Unions for their constructive approach within the tripartite (trade unions, employers and Government) in recent years.
President KOZ Miroslav Gazdik highlighted the importance of the democratically-formed Unions vis-a-vis building the social state after the breakthrough year 1989. The most important tasks ahead of KOZ are, among others, building a knowledge-based society, boosting employment, and maintaining decent working conditions for employees, he said.
