RUZ Rejects Report on State of Slovak Business Environment

Bratislava, April 26 (TASR) - President of the Republican Union of Employers (RUZ) Marian Jusko on Monday expressed his disappointment with a report on the state of the business environment in Slovakia that was discussed by the Economic and Social Council (the so-called Tripartite) on the same day.
Jusko told TASR that the report completely fails to reflect the current problems experienced by the Slovak economy as a result of the economic crisis. In particular, he referred to growing insolvency and secondary insolvency.
According to Jusko, the report doesn't even include information about Slovakia's competitiveness on global markets, even though businessmen would be especially interested in this kind of information.
According to RUZ's information, Slovakia's competitiveness has deteriorated, and unemployment in Slovakia is growing partly due to certain measures taken by the Government, such as raising the minimum wage.
Economy Minister Lubomir Jahnatek disagreed with Jusko's comments when approached by TASR later on the same day. He stressed that companies, their markets and production activities are not managed by the Government but by managers themselves. "When companies' managements and unions of employers start engaging in politics ... the business environment is bound to have some chinks," he argued.
