Madaric: Smer's and KDH's Manifestos Largely Compatible on Paper

Bratislava, April 25 (TASR) - On paper, the election programmes of the strongest ruling, leftist Smer-SD and the opposition Christian Democrats (KDH) are compatible to a surprisingly great extent, said Culture Minister Marek Madaric (Smer) on TV Markiza's weekly debate show 'Na Telo' on Sunday.
"I'm very surprised to see this," said Madaric, claiming that KDH's programme actually contradicts what it did when in power between 1998 and 2006. "If their programme is to be trusted, it's got to follow the line of policies pursued when KDH was in Mikulas Dzurinda's government. However, here we see a substantial contradiction between what KDH did back then and what it has presented now," said Madaric.
Conversely, chairman of the KDH parliamentary caucus and former party leader Pavol Hrusovsky, also on the show, compared Smer's and his party's programmes to "two different worlds" in terms of political values and policies to apply. "We want to reflect each and every problem expressed by ordinary people. It's a sincere attempt to bring virtue into public life, which we want to make more transparent," said Hrusovsky, adding that KDH views politics as "a matter of responsibility", while Smer takes it as "lust for power".
