Bratislava, April 25 (TASR) - After construction work lasting nearly 3.5 years, the square and riverside promenade at Bratislava's new Eurovea shopping district on the left bank of Danube River was officially handed over to the city on Saturday evening by Sean Mulryan, a representative of the developer - Ballymore Group (Ireland).
The ceremonial opening programme culminated in a fireworks display.
"My dream has come true - finally, the 'city by the Danube' is becoming the city on the Danube," said mayor of Bratislava Andrej Durkovsky, noting that it's only a short walk between the city centre and the new district.
"The investor accepted our demands and a new district came into being, one in which people can buy things, be entertained and relax as well," he added.
The 5-star Sheraton Hotel Bratislava was opened in February and the Eurovea Galleria shopping zone in March. The riverfront complex, which is designed to be a relaxation-leisure zone, occupies an area of two hectares, and the new square is regarded by experts as one of the largest new squares in Europe.
"We believe that the park along with the square will become a favourite site for relaxation and entertainment for residents of Bratislava and visitors," said Mike de Mug, Ballymore Group's retail director
