Fico Warns of Revisionism and Racism in Europe

Bratislava, April 23 (TASR) - Premier Robert Fico, speaking at an international conference held in Bratislava to mark the 65th anniversary of the end of WWII, warned against the expansion of historical revisionism within European Union, and especially open or covert efforts to bring about border changes.

Another concern, according to Fico, is racism, which led to the Jewish and Roma Holocausts, because political parties that promote revisionism and racism have received strong backing in some European Union countries.

The fact that such extremist parties can be found across the whole of Europe shouldn't be played down. "This type of extremism in Europe is unusual and very hazardous. It must be confronted by democratic parties and forces in Europe with full resolve," he said.

Fico cautioned against increasing apathy vis-a-vis latent processes that could bring society to the brink of collapse. "Are we sufficiently aware of the symbols of fascism and especially swastikas that excite youth?" asked Fico at the conference.
