Lajcak: Visa Liberalization for Albania a Matter of EU’s Trustworthiness

Bratislava, April 21 (TASR) – Slovak Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajcak met with his Albanian counterpart Illir Meta in Bratislava on Wednesday to discuss the criteria for abolishing visa duty between Albania and the EU, TASR learned from Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesman Peter Stano on the same day.

Lajcak told Meta that Slovakia fully supports the European aspirations of Albania. "We know how this experience has changed us and what benefits it brought for Slovakia, and we’ll let others share that experience," said Lajcak. He added that Slovakia stands ready to help Albania by sharing its own experiences from the integration process with EU, as well as by introducing projects of developmental aid.

Lajcak said that the upcoming visa liberalisation of EU represents a palpable benefit for Albanian people and stressed out that the evaluation process of the country’s readiness for integration needs to be objective and just. He thanked his Albanian counterpart for confirming the intention of establishing an Albanian embassy in Bratislava in autumn 2010.
