Slovaks Still Stranded in India and Kenya over Icelandic Volcano

Velky Krtis, April 21 (TASR) – Dozens of Slovaks remain stuck on other continents, unable to get return flights home due to the problems being caused by the volcanic ash cloud being emitted from Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajokull, TASR learned from Slovak Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesman Peter Stano on Wednesday.

Most Slovak nationals, almost 40 people, are in Delhi, India, with some others finding themselves stranded in Kenya and Thailand,.

"From information provided by our citizens, we’re not under the impression that they are in any emergency or crisis situation. In most cases, they’re only seeking advice on how to proceed when forced to prolong their stay in a foreign country," said Stano.

The Slovak Embassy in Kenya has been taking active care of Slovaks in Nairobi. "The Slovak Embassy actively co-operates with our citizens in Kenya, as sometimes it can be extremely difficult for tourists to get things done in Kenya on their own," said Stano.

The greatest problems caused by such forced prolonged stays are increased costs for accommodation and obtaining permits for longer visits. Slovak embassies are able to help with money transfer from Slovakia or getting cash from bank accounts.
