Velky Krtis, April 21 (TASR) – Tenders in the first round of PPP (public-private partnership) projects to build some sections of the D1 highway will most likely be finished this month, according to the original timetable, Transport Minister Lubomir Vazny (Smer-SD) told TASR after the Government session on Wednesday.
"I firmly believe that the financial conclusion of the project will take place within the deadline. Currently, intensive negotiations are underway regarding financial co-operation of the European Investment Bank as well as the commercial banks," said Vazny.
He added that the 'away' Government session, convened by Slovak Premier Robert Fico, has also helped the project. The banks that are due to finance the highway construction have become antsy after negative statements about PPP projects made by Opposition politicians.
Fico obliged some ministers to draw up a study on profitability of PPP projects. "Sure, we received some signals, indicating that certain banks involved in the highway construction shrank back; however, everything is all right now and the banks let us know that there’s no change in their approach," added Vazny.
