Poll: Smer-SD Would Win Election, Sulik's SaS Climbs to Above 11 %

Bratislava, April 21 (TASR) - Had a general election taken place in April, a total of seven political parties would have made it into Parliament, according to a poll commissioned by TA3 news-only channel and carried out by Focus agency that was released on Wednesday.

The highest number of ballots, 36.8 percent, would go to the current lead coalition party Smer-SD, and the strongest opposition party SDKU-DS would be the runner-up on 13.4 percent.

Compared to some other recent polls, fledgling Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) would have gained considerably greater (11.5 percent) support and would have been in third place. The Christian Democrats (KDH) would have stood on 8.6 percent, just like the nationalist and co-ruling SNS.

Another governing party LS-HZDS would have gained 5.4 percent of votes, while two ethnic-Hungarian parties SMK and Most-Hid would also have made it to Parliament, both standing on 5.1 percent and exceeding the 5-percent threshold necessary to win the seats in Slovakia's supreme law-making body.
