Bratislava, April 20 (TASR) - With future Hungarian Premier Viktor Orban allegedly considering adopting a Hungarian Patriot Act – similar to the initiative of Slovak National Party now before the House – Smer-SD MP Dusan Jarjabek is pondering the introduction of an act on protection of the Republic after the June 12 general election.
"I'm fearful of the radicalisation on the other side of the Danube," TASR was told on Tuesday by Jarjabek, a long-time HZDS MP who crossed the floor to join Smer-SD prior to the 2006 election and is 37th on the candidate list for 2010.
As for Slovakia's Patriot Act, which was returned to the House by President Ivan Gasparovic in March, Jarjabek said he will back the bill in Parliament, although it doesn't represent a perfect solution. "Everybody reacts to the Act in his way - differently students from southern Slovakia and differently students from Kysuce (in northern Slovakia)," he said.
It was Slovak National Party (SNS) caucus leader Rafael Rafaj who on Tuesday surprised the Parliamentary Culture and Media Committee with the piece of information on Orban's alleged intention to adopt the Patriot Act soon after the parliamentary elections there (with the second round scheduled for this Sunday). Rafaj told TASR that he had acquired the news from the Hungarian media.
Ethnic-Hungarian SMK MP Guyula Bardos, when approached by TASR for comment, only quipped that Slovakia would be better off adopting a law against lawmakers suffering from complexes.
