Zagreb, April 19 (TASR) – Croatia is already now viewed as European Union's 28th member, according to Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajcak, who met with his Croatian counterpart Gordan Jandrokovic in Zagreb on Monday.
Discussing issues related to EU enlargement, Lajcak advised his Croatian partner that Croatia shouldn't focus only on what to do before it enters the Union, but also prepare for what it will have to do after accession.
"Immediately after the entry, it's important to redifine one's priorities, reassess one's place in the EU, and decide what to target on," said Lajcak, offering Croats an insight into Slovakia's experience from the EU-integration process. He said that Slovakia would also share the negative bits of its EU experience, so that Croatia "could learn a lesson from the mistakes of a friend". Lajcak expressed Slovakia's full support for Croatian ambitions to enter the European Union. He said this should take place "as soon as possible".
Lajcak called Slovak-Croatian relations trouble-free, and the other side is expected soon to confirm this with an official visit from the Croatian presidential couple, Ivo Josipovic and his wife Tatjana, to Slovakia.
The minister also asked Croatian partners to support the plans to open the Slovak Museum in Nasice, Croatia. Lajcak informed that the Slovak side wants to continue in the initiative concerning police patrols in Croatian holiday destinations largely occupied by Slovaks, the members of which are trained to provide assistance to Slovak tourists. Slovakia also wants to open a consular office in Split, said Lajcak.
The Croatian representatives informed Lajcak about their interest in attracting Slovak investors.
