Medved: Interblue Wants Talks on Terminating Contract by End of 2009

Bratislava, December 3 (TASR) - Shady American company the Interblue Group, which bought Slovakia's carbon-dioxide emission quotas in 2008, wants to hold negotiations with the Slovak Environment Ministry concerning the termination of a mutual contract by the end of this year, Environment Minister Jozef Medved announced at a press conference on Thursday.
According to Medved, this should create scope for this "disgusting" episode in the ministry's history to be finally closed. The negotiations should be held directly, as no mediator has been found as yet.
Slovakia last year sold 15 million tonnes of emissions to Interblue for €5.05 per tonne, with the company obliged to pay another €1 per tonne for Green Projects. Neighbouring countries sold their emissions quotas directly to other countries at considerably higher rates.
