Banska Bystrica, December 2 (TASR) - According to an autopsy, the cause of death of a 33-year-old pregnant woman who died Monday in Banska Bystrica was the A(H1N1) flu virus, TASR was told by Banska Bystrica regional Public Health Office (RUVZ) spokesperson Maria Tolnayova on Wednesday.
"The woman was taken to hospital in the 32nd week of pregnancy due to a virus and A(H1N1) flu virus was diagnosed. The resultant breathing changes and major bacterial infections culminated in respiratory failure," according to a spokesperson of the Health Care Supervisory Authority Milan Michalic.
Due to the woman's compromised state of health, doctors carried out a caesarean section to save the baby. According to doctors, the baby is all right, with negative test results.
There are others who have contracted the virus and died in Slovakia, but this is the first case where A(H1N1) was the primary cause of death.
