Eight Investors Entered Slovakia in 2009, Down from 34 Year Before

Bratislava, April 15 (TASR) - Eight investors announced their plans to enter the Slovak market in 2009, compared to 34 investors who decided to place their investments in Slovakia in 2008, that is, before effects of the crisis kicked in, according to an annual report by the Slovak Trade and Investment Development Agency (SARIO) out on Thursday.

"Disruptions in the functioning of the global financial system, which triggered the financial and economic crises, hit most economies. This is reflected in a gradual drop in international trade and lower interest on the part of foreign investors," said SARIO director Juraj Kiesel.

The eight projects worth some €244.43 million are foreseen to create between 2,635 and 4,450 jobs. According to Kiesel, a project by Taiwan-based AU Optronics, which is slated to build a plant for manufacturing LCD displays in the vicinity of Trencin, is of strategic nature. The company is planning to invest €191 million and create over 1,300 jobs by 2013.
