Flights from Bratislava Suspended due to Volcano Eruption in Iceland

Bratislava, April 15 (TASR) - Flights from Bratislava's MR Stefanik Airport (BTS) to Western Europe are to be postponed for several days due to volcanic eruption in Iceland on Wednesday, Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair informed media on Thursday in a written statement.

The airline has cancelled all seven flights from Bratislava to the United Kingdom and Ireland scheduled for Thursday, BTS spokesperson Dana Madunicka has told TASR. Ryanair also announced temporary suspension of all flights to and from Norway, Sweden and Denmark involving all destinations.

The flights had to be cancelled over an order issued by EUROCONTROL, the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation, which declared the west-European airspace to be closed due to the solid particles being emitted in the ash and dust spewing from the Eyjafjallajokull volcano. It had been dormant for 200 years before erupting for the first time in late March.
