KDH Preaches Austerity and Support of Family in Election Manifesto

Zvolen, April 10 (TASR) - The Christian Democrats (KDH) said at a party council session in Zvolen (Banska Bystrica region) on Saturday that the want to score a double-digit result in the general election in June.

They want to reach this through a programme that will be built on budget austerity and a 'debt brake', radical reduction in taxes and deductions, bolstering small and medium-sized enterprises, energy security and tourism.

In case of getting into Government after the election, the Christian Democrats want to make a deep reform of education. They also propose yearlong deduction holidays for firms that would hire long-term unemployed and school graduates.

The Christian-democratic party also traditionally focuses on the family, which it want to protect by adopting a constitutional law on marriage. "We'll increase the tax bonus by 100 percent on every children under six years of age, and introduce tax and deduction holidays for one year," said Figel.

"We won't support the planned construction of an oil pipeline across Zitny Ostrov (which contains the largest potable water resources in Central Europe - ed. note), neither we agree with uranium mining in Slovakia," said Figel.

In addition, KDH intends to draw up a constitutional law based on the principle 'One Mandate Is Enough', whereby politicians would be banned to hold several posts at the same time, and introduce measures to reduce politicians' immunity.
