Krawczyk: Polish Are Shocked From Kaczynski’s Plane Crash

Bratislava, April 10 (TASR) – "As Polish, we are shocked and sad from what has happened. In connection with today's tragedy we have realised what is most important. The Polish army has lost its top military commanders in this catastrophe," Poland's Ambassador to Slovakia Andrzej Krawczyk told on news-only television channel TA3 on Saturday.

The ambassador was speaking in reaction to the tragic crash of the airplane carrying Polish President Lech Kaczynski on Saturday morning in the Russian town of Smolensk.

Krawczyk said that the ceremony in Katyn, where the Polish delegation was heading, was very important for the Polish army. They were supposed to pay tribute to thousands of Polish officers, who were slaughtered by Soviet forces in the Katyn forest 70 years ago. "For the generals it was a matter of honour," said Krawczyk.

Also, he thanked the Slovak people that called to Poland's Embassy in Bratislava to express their condolences. "We appreciate it very much and we want to thank you," concluded the Polish diplomat.
